To people on the outside, you may appear to eat in a very healthy way, BUT ….. you often find yourself obsessing over food. How much to eat, when to eat, how
healthy or in line with the diet you have adopted your food is.

Sometimes you may weigh your food or count exactly how many calories there are to make sure your are sticking to the plan. Perhaps your friends or family have pulled your leg about this and said it is becoming difficult to invite you for a meal.

Eating healthy food and being knowledgeable about its provenance does
not constitute disordered eating, but there is sometimes a fine line between wishing to eat well and being obsessive about it.

Do you have Orthorexia Nervosa ?

The term Orthorexia Nervosa was coined in the 1990’s and is defined as an
obsession with Healthy Eating Choices, or the thought that eating certain foods will have harmful effects. There is also a marked concern with the Quality of food.

The Result : This type of rigid thinking can lead to nutritional deficiencies, lower quality of life, impacted relationships and, if it continues over a long period, other medical conditions.Individuals with Orthorexia Nervosa do not usually have a fixation on their weight. It is the value and quality of food that takes precedence.

Although Orthorexia is not recognized as a Psychiatric disorder, obsessive focus on healthy foods, preoccupation with dietary
restrictions, the deviation from which causes severe anxietvery, very definitely DO constitute a form of disordered eating.
